Value Chain as Competitive Advantage The idea of a value chain was first proposed by Michael Porter (1985) who identified that the more value an organization creates, the more profitable it is likely to be. Porter describes the value chain as the internal processes or series of activities a company performs â€Å"to design, produce, market, deliver and support its product† (Porter, 1985). John Shank and V. Rehabilitation Of Prison Is It Possible Or A Lost Cause

Rehabilitation in prison: Is it possible or a lost cause? When people think about the men and women that occupy our prison system, I’m sure one of the first things that come to their mind isn’t â€Å"rehabilitation† and the different programs that could be implemented in order to get these crooks mentally healthy and ready to be released back into society. What does come to one’s mind more often than not, are the negative behaviors that got these men and women into the prison system in the first place, the punishment that will be laid out for them, the long hours that are going to be spent thinking about what they have done to not only their life, but the lives of the individuals targeted and their families. It is easy to forget that these†¦show more content†¦The problem is that many people keep going back to institutions and have been since childhood. It ends up being a place of comfort for them instead of a place of punishment because they have had no way of learning any other way. How do you expect a human being to learn their lesson and change for the better and be a productive member of society when the same corruption that happened outside the penitentiary takes place inside? It is no surprise that prison is supposed to be a place of punishment, where an individual is sent away to pay for their wrongdoings and reflect on their behavior and the harm that it caused others. Many people have this idea that they should rot in jail for the pain they have caused others and that they deserve this type of treatment. In some instances I agree with it to a certain extent but on the other hand it is useful to think about what causes these individuals to lead a life of crime in the first place and what could be done to help these people become better while locked up. Often times the same behavior that got these men and women into prison in the first place is continued while incarcerated. I think this is partly due to the fact that prison is better at punishing people rather than helping to rehabilitate them. Every year both the companies bring in new innovations in their smartphones, which greatly increases their smartphone sales. But in today’s market where there is cut throat competition it is given that each company will try to outdo the other in every possible manner. At the same time; SRE was strengthened and was secured. It was believed that secularizing reforms was frequently driven with a practical objective by the teachers and the administrators. Also by avoiding the controversies, improving the working conditions, and managing the class. Right to information: They have the right to be informed about the organization of the special education and also which institution will impart such knowledge (Benjamin, 2016). As positive rights were being provided to the parents, so to fulfill these rights definite responsibilities were also being imposed upon the schools and the providers of the schools to complete the necessities. This includes: Making a provision for the delivery of Special Religious Education Fix time limit for imparting Special Education Providing significant information for the awareness of the parents about the education, etc. (Brien, and Hack, 2010). For imparting religious education, a rule was drafted and established by the Government of New South Wales. The Religious Education Policy summarizes the necessities and the responsibilities for the issue relating to general spiritual learning and Special spiritual learning. The major objectives of the policy which was drafted are as follows: All the schools should allow for imparting general and specific religious education to the students When parents of some students have withdrawn their children from particular spiritual learning, then the students should be provided meaningful services by the schools (Rossiter, 2003). The option of imparting special education in ethics to the students would be provided when the parents make a request in a reasonably practical manner. The curriculum of the general religious education would be offered as a part of New South Wales Board of Studies; whereas Approved providers develop and implement the curriculum of particular spiritual learning (Gleeson, 2015). This policy applies to all the schools and suppliers of Special religious knowledge. Leadership loneliness and solitude as a Contemporary Challenge In the era of rapid social, economic, cultural and religious change, there are some disputes for leadership in Catholic schools (OShea, 2014). Today, it was observed that the individual was seen to be entering into a time of threshold replete with opportunities and perils for the future. There are various movements which give rise to different kinds of challenges and possibilities like globalization, an explosion of knowledge, information technology, gap building between rich and poor, environmental issues, and quests related to religion. Schools was regarded as the microcosms of the society. Schools are the best mirror to see the happening of events in society whereas the cultural environment shapes their character. It was observed that there was a growing realization of the considerable impact that an educational leader would have on the educational changes prevailing and the leading schools. This awareness was regarded virtually to all the systems of schools and contexts of the diverse education system. It includes public, state as well as independent and religious schools. The major responsibility of the leaders of the schools was oriented only in the direction of making improvements in the learning of the students also in the teaching process of teachers. Successful leadership was considered as attributable to the principals and the leaders of the schools. They play a crucial role in mobilizing the teachers in the direction of enhancing better learning opportunities for the students. Leadership in the religious schools was based on a deep conviction and decision made by following a particular mindset that the religious is more real than the tangible activities which we intake by our senses (NSW Department of Education, 2015). Religious schools leaders require a highly tuned-in sense of knowing how a responsibility to act in a moral way guide their role of being a leader; as per the religious tradition which the school follows and the work which was completed for the best interest of all members. Leadership is such an element which was needed by the effectual leadership which is being followed by the religious schools. Because it would direct the combination of moral order in the school community, building up of values beliefs that would help in driving the reason and significance of schools. Leadership in holy schools requires religious leadership which was not regarded as different from that which prevails in schools (Belmonte, and Cranston, 2009). But rather it is taken as an internal part of the educational enterprise of the religious school. Leaders need the skills and the vision o critique and examine the issues which were related to a religious tradition which was followed by the schools. It belongs to the schools to equip students with the values and the principles which form as a part of useful services. Globalization is the one and only issue which have put its impact on all the societies throughout the world. It has a revolutionary impact on both education as well as educational leadership. Historically, Solitude was connected with beneficial outcomes such as religious development and creativity. Many of the spiritual leaders have spent a major amount of time in solitude. But various writers have made solitude their major creative regime (Bourantas, Epitropaki, and Papalois, 2007). As per the Oxford Dictionary, Solitude was regarded as the state of being or living alone solitariness. Though, it is a much broader and affluent concept than merely affirming it to be being alone. According to existential philosophers, isolation was defined as an experience of discovering the personal truth and reason of being. The role of solitude about leadership was mainly set aside in this report. Emphasis was put on the nature of leadership. It was affirmed that the main mark of any successful leader is not his impact on student learning at the end of his time period, but rather than the number of good leaders who are left behind who can go even further. Effective educational leaders must be capable both as individuals and as professionals. They must make use of their knowledge, skill and competencies for the benefit of students. They should make use of these factors with a good judgment and wisdom in order to solve problems of the children. In real world, the principals combine the elements of instructional, transformational and distributed leadership related to the contextual and developmental needs of the community of the schools. In all the other contexts the leaders focuses on: Establishment of objectives and high amount of expectations- Establishment of a clear sense of direction and purpose is repeatedly identified as one of the core areas of practice of effective principals. It was used for evaluating, selecting and promoting as well as introducing such practices and policies which will show the respect for an organization for the need of the leaders. Leveraging Mobile Device Applications for Boeing Travel and Expense Ser

Abstract—More companies are leveraging mobile device applications that integrate with their existing travel and expense systems to provide frequent business travelers with the necessary tools to efficiently book trips and expense their expenditures using mobile devices, thus allowing business travelers to be more productive, which saves the company money. Currently, almost twenty-three thousand Boeing employees have been issued BlackBerry Smartphones. Ninety-percent of these employees make more than one trip per month. Currently, Boeing is not maximizing the use of the BlackBerry Smartphones by using a mobile application for Boeing Travel and Expense management to decrease costs by allowing employees to be more productive. Since twenty-three thousand employees already have been issued BlackBerry Smartphones we can leverage these devices and implement a mobile device application that integrates with our current Travel and Expense Systems that we have purchased from Concur Travel. Purchasing a mobile applications solution from Concur Travel will allow Boeing travelers to save time; reduce costs; increase productivity; and better serve our customers. I. MOTIVATION Concur’s mobile capability will provide Boeing with the perfect solution for employees, managers and executive staff who no longer have to wait until they return to the ofï ¬ ce to complete or approve an expense report. I think Armand Aubigny is one of major character in the story. Because if there are no Armand in the story, then the conflict will not be until the climax, or maybe there would be no conflict at all. In the story, Armand had a conflict with his wife, Desiree. Before we get to the main conflict, yes, I think when Armand had a quarrel with Desiree about Desiree’s baby is the main conflict, first, I will lead you to the characterization of Armand Aubigny. It was no wonder, when she stood one day against the stone pillar in whose shadow she had lain asleep, eighteen years before, that Armand Aubigny riding by and seeing her there, had fallen in love with her. † Armand is a man who fell in love with Desiree. He has a light skin and handsome but his mother having black skin. His mother died when he was eight. He didn’t remember her mother have a black skin, maybe because his light skin. I can say that Armand is a racist, because he has strict rules to his slaves. And hi s slaves are Negrillon. Armand has known Desiree since he is a boy. But on that time, Armand not loved her.It is represented in the sentence: â€Å"The wonder was that he had not loved her before; for he had known her since his father brought him home from Paris, a boy of eight, after his mother died there. † Then, Armand didn’t care about Desiree’s origin. He really fell in love with her. He believed that he can give Desiree the best, the oldest and the proudest in Louisiana as is evidenced under the sentence in which he didn’t care with her nameless: â€Å"What did it matter about a name when he could give her one of the oldest and proudest in Louisiana? † Then they were married. Armand is the man who is arrogant.He cannot discuss a problem using his brain but he uses his emotion. Armand and Desiree live their lives as a family as did other family. Until Desiree gave a birth to a baby and Armand knew that baby has a dark skin. Armand who formerly loved Desiree is now turned into a fierce Armand. Armand blames Desiree for what happened to his child. He said that Desiree is a descendant from a black people . We can look at the scene when Desiree tried to talk to Armand about the child: â€Å"Tell me what it means! † she cried despairingly. â€Å"It means,† he answered lightly, â€Å"that the child is not white; it means that you are not white. †¦ â€Å"As white as La Blanche's,† he returned cruelly; and went away leaving her alone with their child. He didn’t care when Desiree decided to leave the house. Please, look at this conversation: â€Å"Do you want me to go? † â€Å"Yes, I want you to go. † Armand blamed God too. He thought that God has unfair to him because formerly he loved Desiree very much and then Desiree gave him badness into his house and his family. How to Deal With Having No Friends in College So, you are almost ready to head off to college? It is an exciting time in any student’s life – you get to leave high school behind and embark on a new adventure. However, it can also be a daunting prospect for many people. While in high school, you have had several years to build up your group of friends and now it is likely that you are all headed off to different colleges – maybe even hundreds of miles apart. What are you going to do if you end up making no friends in college as a freshman? Believe it or not, this is something that even the most confident of people worry about! That’s why we have put together a few tips for how to deal with I have no friends in college situation. Start with the Classroom The most obvious place to start if you need to find new friends is in your classroom. Talk to your classmates – after all, you are doing the same course, so you must have at least one shared interest? A great way to make friends with classmates is to form a study group. This is a win-win situation since you are going to have support when exams and assignments roll around plus you get the chance to get to know people better and perhaps form some deeper friendships. Assignments and exam prep are sure to give you something to bond over and if that isn’t the basis for a lasting friendship we don’t know what is! If you still havent chosen classes you are going to attend, consider the most fun classes. How Do You End Up with No Friends in College? As we have already noted, most people starting college will be coming to campus without their high school friends (you will miss them so much, wont you?) However, there can be other reasons why college students find themselves without friends on campus. Perhaps you have transferred from another school mid-semester? Did you change your major and now have a totally different schedule to your former course mates? It could even be that you just want to break away from your current social group due to differing goals or opinion. Whatever the reason for your limited social circle, there are plenty of ways to make new friends. Join a Club or Society If you have no friends in college as a sophomore, then it is time to put yourself out there and start meeting new people. One of the great things about college is that you will find a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs and societies. Think about what sort of activities you enjoy or subjects you would like to learn more about and see if there is a suitable club you can join. This is going to give you direct access to people who share similar interests giving you a great foundation on which to build a friendship. It might take a few weeks to start fitting in to an existing group, but before long you will be inviting other members for coffee or other social activities. Get to Know Others in Your Dorm If you find yourself with no friends in college and you are staying on campus, then your dorms are a great place to start. Aside from your room-mate, make an effort to talk to others on your hall or even on other floors. It is common for dorms to hold social events in the common area from time to time, so make an effort to attend. Even if there are no scheduled events in your dorm you should make a point of spending time in the lounge, so you can meet others living in the building. Maybe you could even think about throwing a dorm party on your own? Look for Friends in Library or Cafeteria It is also important NOT to spend all of your time in the dorms. Make an effort to go out around campus. Study in the library instead of in your room. Eat your lunch outside on a nice day and strike up a conversation with others who are doing the same. You won’t make new friends if you don’t make the effort to get out and meet people. You can’t do that hiding away in your dorm! Don’t Be Afraid to Look Off Campus If you have no friends in college, don’t be afraid to try looking off campus. Check out local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants off campus and you might meet some cool people. You could also try volunteering somewhere or going to concerts and events off campus. You might be surprised how many people from college hang out in these places too – plus its good to get away from school from time to time! Always Remember You Are Not Alone It can feel like you are the only person on campus who has no friends in college, but the truth is that you are not alone. Even although it seems like everyone else is having a blast surrounded by great friends, you are certainly not the only one struggling with socializing. Never forget that it is perfectly natural to feel out of place in a new environment. Remember that: Others are in the same boat and are nervous about finding new friends at college too. Try not to make such a big deal out of finding new friends. Just take the time to go out and have fun, meet new people and you will naturally start to build relationships with people. On March 30, 1981 John Hinckley, Jr. did the unthinkable. As President Reagan and several members of his staff exited the Washington Hilton Hotel Hinckley opened fire. Once the shots rang out secret service agents grabbed President Reagan, put him into a limousine and brought him to safety. It was not until later that the agents realized that the president had been wounded, along with three other individuals. The president was brought to George Washington Hospital where he underwent surgery to repair a collapsed lung and other damage that was caused by the .22 caliber bullet that passed through his ribs. Hinckley was arrested at the scene and charged with 13 counts of criminal activity, which included the attempted assassination of President Reagan, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault with the intent to kill. The one thing that made this case unique was the fact that Hinckleys actions were captured on film, which proved without a doubt that Hinckley was the gunman. Merced County Health Status Essay A community’s health can be established through a myriad of differing factors. Three specific factors that will help to determine the health of the county in which I live are community safety, disaster preparedness, as well as an analysis of the population. The community under review, Merced, is located in central California and made up of seventeen cities and communities whose individual populations do not exceed more than 75,000 and covers an area of approximately 1,972 square miles (United States Census Bureau, 2010) with a total population of approximately 255,793 people in 2010 (Merced County California, 2012). The first area of importance is community safety. It is important to beginning discussion with the one of the most basic of health indicators; the air we breathe. The air quality index in Merced County is 48, a median value that takes into account only the most hazardous air pollutants (Air Now, 2012). This value is only slightly lower than the air quality index of California, but is approximatly 30% higher than the national average (Air Now, 2012). Another important area that must be addressed is the water we drink. In Merced County most of our drinking water comes from groundwater sources which are collected by two public water systems. Most all areas in Merced County are affected by three different pollutants: Nitrates, Ethylene Dibromide (EDB), and Dibromochloropropane (DBCP) (Air Now, 2012). Although all three of the pollutants fall below the water standard or eliminated through the public water systems, these pollutants will continue to be an issue because EDB and DBCP were used by farmers for many years to fumigate crops. Another area of concern in community safety is the safety hazards within the sociocultural environment. The ability to work, shop, or simply ride your bike and feel protected within the area in which you live are important features in determining the health of a community. With 1. 2 police officers and 4. 4 sheriff officers per 100,000 people and an average response time of 3 minutes (Merced County Office of Economic Development, 2012); most people can be fairly confident that they and their property are protected. However, crime rates have risen in the past few years. In 2009, Merced County experienced 1,658 violent crimes; the majority of which involved aggrivated assult but also included 26 murders, 78 forcible rapes, and 276 robberies (United States Department of Justice, 2012). There were also 4,390 property crimes and 90 cases of arson (United States Department of Justice, 2012). Rate of offenses per 100,000 are as follows: violent 568. 3, property 567. 3, drug 512. 9, sex 37. 9, other 489. 1, and totaling 2,175. 5 per 100,000 (United States Department of Justice, 2012). Considering there are only 5. law enforcement officers per 100,000 people, it would appear as though crime will continue to rise for the foreseeable future. These numbers are especially troublesome considering budget cuts that will surely affect all public safety departments (Layoff Watch, 2011). There are a couple of ethnic groups within Merced County that feel especially vulnerable, the Hispanic community and the Asian community. The Hispanic community nearly makes-up 50 percent of the population and is congrigated in the poorest of neighborhoods. Yet another concern involving public safety is the ability to obtain medical services. Within Merced County there are only two hospitals that offer emergency medical service, Memorial hospital of Los Banos and Dignity Health of Merced. Memorial hospital of Los Banos is a relatively small hospital with the ability to admit a total of 46 patients (Memorial Hospital Los Banos, 2008). The emergency room has the ability to care for a total of 6 patient’s requiring immediate emergency care, but has the capability to fly patients out to other facilities if required. Dignity Health of Merced is the larger of the two facilities and cares for the majority of the population of Merced County. Dignity Health has a total of 194 beds available. Dignity Health has approximately 10,900 admissions per year and total emergency room visits equaling around 66,000 per year. On a typical weekend the emergency room will see about 250 patients between the hours of 7 a. m. and7 p. m. (M. Parker RN, personal communication, June 8, 2012). Also serving the community are 8 primary clinics. The majority of these clinics are located within the city limits of Merced and Los Banos. Those located outside of these locations will have to drive upto 30 minutes to obtain medical services. Merced County also has five psychiatric facilities, only 2 of which are capable of admitting patients. Country Villa Merced Behavioral Health Center has 96 beds available for the community and has the ability to care for long-term patients between the ages of 18 to 65 years of age (Country Villa Merced Behavioral Health Center, 2012). Marie Green Psychiatric Center is a smaller facility that has the ability to admit upto 20 patients between the ages of 18 to 65 years of age, but this is a short term facility that can only care for patients for up to 90 days. Currently, in the Merced County area there are no psychiatric facilities that have the capability to care for psychiatric patients under the age of 18 or over the age of 65. Emergency preparedness within Merced County is primarily controlled by the Department of Public Health. Merced County’s emergency preparedness was last updated in 2003 and in general addresses â€Å"preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation activities† (City of Merced California, 2012). In the preparedness phase, activities are concentrated in advance of a disaster. Actions are focused on â€Å"implementing hazard mitigation projects, developing hazard analyses, developing and maintaining emergency plans and procedures, conducting general and specialized training, conducting exercises, developing mutual aid agreements, and improving emergency public education and warning systems† (Merced County California, 2003). In the response phase an emergency situation is imminent or likely to occur. During this stage the county initiates actions to increase its readiness. In the recovery phase the focus is to return public services to Merced county residents and return any area affected by the emergency to its previous condition. The mitigation phase occurs before and after emergencies. After a disaster or emergency, mitigation or alleviation, includes â€Å"reducing the impact of hazards that exist within Merced County† (Merced County California, 2003). Although Merced County Public Health Department concerns itself with the county as a whole, it must also make provisions for areas more susceptable to emergencies or areas where there is an increased difficulty to disseminate information. Within these areas there are disproportionate ethnic minorities. The two primary ethnic groups, hispanic and asian americans, are particularily at risk because of transportational and housing issues as well as dysfunctional attitudes toward disaster planning or preparedness. Within Merced County the Hispanic community makes up nearly 50% of the population and constitutes the majority of those living below poverty level. This translates into the majority of the population within the economically depressed areas having inadequate housing or malfunctioning transportation. When a disaster does occur, this group will be the hardest hit as they will not have the financial means to recover what they have lost. This group also has the highest potential for harm due to the inability to relocate to an area that is safe due to transportational issue. What places this group at highest risk are their attitudes toward disaster planning or preparedness. After speaking with six different families from a depressed area, all but one family put any thought into a potential emergency, and none of these families had money set aside for such a disaster (personal communication, June 1, 2012).

This paper will analyze the texts of John Lewis Gaddis, Nietzsche and the Birth of Tragedy, Modernity and Historical Vision, Living in Modernity, and Hermeneutics. Finally, the paper will argue that history is not largely objective, and is fundamentally shaped through the historian’s subjectivity. John Lewis Gaddis, in his book, The Landscape of History, generates a strong argument for the historical method by bringing together the multiple standpoints in viewing history and the sciences. The issue of objective truth in history is addressed throughout Gaddis’s work. In general, historians learn to select the various events that they believe to be valid. Historians must face the fact that there is an â€Å"accurate† interpretation of the past ceases to exist because interpretation itself is based on the experience of the historian, in which people cannot observe directly (Gaddis 10). Historians can only view the past in a limited perspective, which generates subjectivity and bias, and claiming a piece of history to be â€Å"objective† is simplistic. There is no real objective aspect to history, but a multitude of attitudes towards history can make history a discipline that allows for multidimensionality. The debate regarding whether or not history could be objective has been discussed and interpreted by many historians. The ways we think about history has allowed for the divergence of various perspectives in the world we live in today. In sum, the question discussed in this paper pertains to the extent of which history can be objective. This question has left room for several interpretations in the field of historiography and challenged our experienced in the era of modernity. This paper’s argument went for the subjective side of the argument with evidence for my argumentation from John Gaddis, Friedrich Nietzsche, Postmodernity and Modernity, Living in Modernity, and Heidegger’s Hermeneutics.
